About phone accessories & charging brands

Phone accessories are cheap enough that people buy them on impulse, and that is exactly how they end up with a screen protector cut for the wrong model or a charger that tops out at half the wattage their phone accepts. The details that matter here are small and specific: the exact model name, the charging standard, and the wattage per port.

We cover two brands. Magic John focuses on tempered glass screen protectors with an alignment tray, lens guards and slim magnetic cases for current iPhone, Galaxy and Pixel flagships, with a replacement warranty (365 days on cases, 180 days on everything else). AUKEY sells Qi2 magnetic charging stands, compact GaN wall chargers, power banks and cables at mid-range prices.

One caution up front: we could not read AUKEY's shipping, return or warranty text on its store, so confirm those before buying direct.

How to shop for phone accessories and chargers online

Screen protectors. Match the exact model, including Pro, Plus or Ultra, since edge curves and sensor cutouts differ even within one generation. An installation tray or alignment frame matters more than the glass "hardness" claim; almost every tempered protector quotes 9H, which is a pencil hardness test and does not separate brands. Privacy filters cut side viewing but also dim the screen slightly. Note that opened screen protectors are commonly non-returnable, so if you are unsure about fit, confirm before you peel the film.

Lens protectors. These can cause flare or focus hunting on some phones. Look for individual ring-style guards rather than a single slab over the whole camera bump if photo quality matters to you.

Wireless charging: Qi versus Qi2. Qi2 adds magnetic alignment and supports up to 15W on compatible phones (Qi2.2 raises that to 25W on newer models). Older plain Qi pads often charge iPhones at 7.5W. If you want a 3-in-1 stand for phone, watch and earbuds, check whether the watch puck is the official module or a generic one, since Apple Watch charging is picky.

Wall chargers. GaN chargers are smaller for the same output. Read the per-port split: a "100W" two-port charger may deliver 65W and 30W when both are in use. For a laptop, confirm USB-C PD support at the wattage your laptop needs. For Samsung fast charging, look for PPS support.

Power banks. Rated capacity (mAh at 3.7V) is higher than what reaches your phone; expect roughly 60 to 70 percent of the headline figure in real charges. Airlines cap carry-on batteries at 100Wh, which is about 27,000mAh. Magnetic packs are convenient but charge more slowly and generate more heat than a cable.

Returns and warranties. Short replacement windows are normal here. Magic John covers protectors for 180 days and excludes damage from improper installation. If a store's policies are not readable, treat that as a reason to buy from a retailer you know.

Shipping. Free shipping thresholds around $40 are common, and standard delivery of 5 to 8 business days is typical for direct stores, so do not order a protector the day before a trip.

Which brand fits which buyer

  • Recent iPhone, Galaxy or Pixel owners who want a tray-aligned glass protector with a replacement program: Magic John.
  • Buyers who want privacy glass or a slim magnetic case with a stand: Magic John.
  • Qi2 phone owners who want a magnetic 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 stand or a car mount: AUKEY, after confirming return terms.
  • Travelers who want one small GaN charger for a laptop and phone: AUKEY, or the same specs from a retailer with a known return policy.

Frequently asked questions

Is tempered glass better than a plastic screen protector?
Tempered glass feels closer to the original screen and resists scratches better, while film protectors flex and are less likely to crack. The 9H rating printed on most glass is a pencil test and does not distinguish brands.
Can I return an opened screen protector?
Usually not. Magic John, for example, excludes opened screen protectors from returns, so check the model fit before you open the package.
What is the difference between Qi and Qi2 charging?
Qi2 adds a magnetic ring for alignment and supports up to 15W on compatible phones, while older Qi pads often run slower on iPhones. Your phone must support Qi2 to get the faster rate.
How many phone charges will a 10,000mAh power bank give?
Expect roughly 1.5 to 2 full charges for a typical phone, because conversion losses mean only about 60 to 70 percent of the rated capacity reaches the battery.
Do I need a GaN charger?
Not strictly, but GaN chargers are noticeably smaller for the same wattage, which matters for travel and for multi-port bricks that charge a laptop and phone together.
