About fitness equipment brands

Home fitness equipment is heavy, bulky and expensive to send back, so the return policy is part of the price. A $100 restocking fee on a treadmill or a $30 fee to cancel a trampoline already in transit changes the math on a "great deal." Space matters too: measure ceiling height for a treadmill at full incline and yard clearance around a trampoline before you order.

The brands we cover take different corners of the home gym. Aotob sells budget netted backyard and indoor trampolines with a 5-year frame warranty. YESOUL makes smart treadmills, bikes and rowers pitched as a lower-cost Peloton alternative. Kensui builds plate-loaded add-ons like the EZ-VEST weighted vest, adjustable dumbbells and neck trainers for lifters who already own plates. APE BORN sells wearable EMS muscle stimulators.

We also list Yogamu, but its storefront was unavailable when we checked, so hold off there.

How to shop for home fitness equipment online

Treadmills. Check motor rating (continuous horsepower, not peak), belt size (at least 20 by 55 inches for running, smaller is fine for walking), maximum speed and incline, and user weight limit. Measure your ceiling: you need roughly your height plus the deck height at maximum incline plus a few inches of headroom. Decide whether you want to use the brand's class app or your own streaming apps, and whether any feature needs a subscription.

Bikes and rowers. For spin bikes, look at resistance type (magnetic is quiet and low-maintenance), Q-factor, seat and handlebar adjustment range, and pedal type (SPD clips versus toe cages). For rowers, check rail length against your inseam and whether it folds or stands upright for storage.

Trampolines. Measure your yard and leave clearance on all sides, ideally away from fences, trees and slopes. Check frame steel gauge, the number and length of springs, the enclosure net attachment (inside-the-spring nets reduce contact with springs), and the weight limit. Anchor kits are worth buying in windy areas. Warranties commonly exclude weather damage and wear, so a cover or winter storage extends life.

Plate-loaded and calisthenics gear. Confirm plate hole size (standard 1-inch versus Olympic 2-inch) and maximum load. A plate-loaded weighted vest needs plates of a specific diameter to fit; check the compatible range. For dumbbells, look at the adjustment mechanism and increment size.

EMS devices. EMS stimulates muscle contractions but does not replace exercise for strength or fat loss. Check gel pad replacement costs, intensity levels and battery life. People with pacemakers, epilepsy, pregnancy or heart conditions should talk to a doctor first.

Return and delivery traps. YESOUL gives a free cancellation or return only within 24 hours of ordering; after that, non-defective returns within 14 days cost return shipping plus a $100 restocking fee. Aotob charges $30 per parcel to cancel an order in transit. Kensui's own refund and shipping pages disagree on the window, and APE BORN's refund page offers a 60-day trial while its shipping page describes a 2-day change-of-mind window with store credit. Get terms in writing when pages conflict. Several stores, including YESOUL and Aotob, do not deliver to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.

Budget tiers. Indoor kids' trampolines and EMS belts run under $150. Backyard trampolines and incline treadmills sit around $300 to $800. Connected bike-plus-treadmill bundles and specialty plate-loaded machines run higher.

Which brand fits which buyer

  • Families buying a first backyard trampoline with a safety net: Aotob, keeping the box unopened until you are sure.
  • Home runners who want an auto-incline treadmill under $800, or a bike and treadmill bundle: YESOUL, deciding within 24 hours if you might cancel.
  • Garage-gym lifters and calisthenics athletes with plates already: Kensui, getting return terms in writing first.
  • Busy people wanting a wearable add-on for abs, arms or thighs: APE BORN, after reading both of its return pages.
  • Yogamu shoppers: wait until the store is back online with published policies.

Frequently asked questions

Can I return a treadmill bought online?
Usually yes, but with costs. YESOUL, for example, allows free returns only within 24 hours of ordering, and later non-defective returns cost return shipping plus a $100 restocking fee.
How much space do I need for a backyard trampoline?
Allow the trampoline's diameter plus clear space on every side, away from fences, trees and slopes, and check overhead clearance from branches or wires. A flat, level spot matters for safety.
Do EMS muscle stimulators work?
EMS can cause muscle contractions and is used in rehab settings, but consumer belts are not a substitute for exercise for strength or fat loss. Check with a doctor first if you have a heart condition, pacemaker or are pregnant.
What size treadmill belt do I need?
For running, look for a belt at least 20 inches wide and 55 to 60 inches long. Walkers can use smaller decks.
Which fitness equipment stores do not ship to Alaska or Hawaii?
YESOUL and Aotob both exclude Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and APO/FPO addresses, so check the shipping page before ordering if you live outside the contiguous US.
