About resin, tufting & sewing crafts brands
Craft supplies look interchangeable until a project fails. Resin cures cloudy or tacky because of the wrong mix ratio or a cold room, a tufting gun jams because the yarn weight is wrong for the needle, and a sewing pattern comes out a size off because the test square printed at the wrong scale. Most of the buying decisions here are about matching materials to the method.
Let's Resin is a one-stop US shop for epoxy and UV resin, silicone molds, pigments and tools, with free shipping at $30. Peekaboo Pattern Shop sells instant-download PDF sewing patterns, especially for kids' clothes, with photo tutorials. Urban Tufting carries tufting guns, frames, spare parts and yarn, though its policy pages showed no actual terms when we checked.
Zendo Crafts also appears in this category, but its store showed as unavailable when we reviewed it, so we cannot suggest ordering there.
How to shop for resin, tufting and sewing supplies online
Resin: pick the chemistry for the project. Two-part epoxy is the workhorse for coasters, trays and river tables. Check the mix ratio (1:1 by volume is the most forgiving), working time, full cure time and maximum pour depth: coating resin is for thin layers, while deep-pour or casting resin can go thicker without overheating. UV resin cures in minutes under a lamp but only in thin layers, which suits jewelry, keychains and small fixes. Look for low-odor formulas, but still work with ventilation, nitrile gloves and a respirator rated for organic vapors.
Molds and colorants. Food-grade does not apply to most craft silicone; use resin pieces as decor, not for food contact unless the resin is rated for it after full cure. Shiny-finish molds give glossy pieces; matte molds dull the surface. Mica powders, alcohol inks and liquid pigments each behave differently in epoxy, so test small batches. A degassing chamber or heat gun removes bubbles; a pressure pot is the more advanced option.
Resin returns. Opened resin is nearly always non-returnable. Let's Resin accepts only unopened, unused items within 30 days, and you pay return shipping unless the item was defective or misdescribed. Buy a small kit first to learn the product.
Tufting guns. Cut-pile guns make plush surfaces, loop-pile guns make textured loops, and cut-and-loop guns switch between both. Check which yarn weight the gun handles, the pile height range and whether spare needles and scissors are sold separately. You also need a sturdy frame and primary tufting cloth stretched tight; a weak frame causes most beginner frustration. For a $250-plus gun, get the return and warranty terms in writing first and pay with a card that offers purchase protection.
Sewing patterns. PDF patterns arrive instantly and can be reprinted, but print at 100% (no "fit to page") and measure the test square before cutting fabric. Check the size chart against your measurements rather than ready-to-wear sizes, and look for layered PDFs that let you print only your size. If you plan to sell finished items, read the pattern's commercial-use terms. Digital patterns are normally non-refundable.
Shipping and seasonality. Resin and craft supplies spike before holidays, so order seasonal molds early. Continental US resin orders typically take 3 to 10 business days.
Budget tiers. A beginner resin kit with molds and pigments runs $30 to $80. A tufting starter kit with gun, frame and yarn costs around $290. PDF patterns usually cost a few dollars to about $15 each.
