The four hair care brands we have reviewed in this category finished very close together in our reviews, so the "best" one depends far more on your hair type and where you live than on any overall ranking. Two are built for textured and curly hair, one is a single-ingredient oil brand, and one is an Australian argan line with a huge bundle catalog. Here is how they compare and who should buy from each.

Botanical Cabana: best value for textured and curly hair
Botanical Cabana keeps its routine short: one shampoo, one conditioner, a leave-in, two stylers, a scalp oil and a blow-dry primer. Full products start at $11 to $12, which is drugstore pricing for a specialty textured-hair line, and tools like the Hydra 2-in-1 detangling brush are $8.50. Every product page opens with the "Hair Dilemma" it is meant to solve, and there is a hair quiz if you are unsure where to start.
Where to begin:
- Twist-outs and braid-outs: the Twist + Texture Defining Creme ($12 for 2oz, $26 for 8oz), a thick cream with flexible hold. It can weigh down fine or loose waves.
- Detangling and heat prep: the Detangling Leave-In Hydration Mist ($12 for 2oz), a milky spray with panthenol and keratin. Protein-sensitive hair may not love it.
- Set styles with lighter hold: the Shine + Bounce Styling Foam ($12 for 1.7oz).
- Silk presses and blowouts: the Anti-Humidity Blow Dry Primer, on sale at $12.37 when we checked.
The return policy is the most generous here: 30 days for new or gently used products, for a refund, exchange or store credit, minus shipping costs. The catch is that it ships within the US only and doesn't state a free-shipping threshold. The shampoo and conditioner include cayenne and peppermint, which can tingle, so patch test if your scalp is sensitive.
Silk Oil of Morocco: best for argan hair care and value bundles
This family-run Australian brand started with a single argan hair and skin serum and now lists about 977 products across hair, body, makeup and fragrance. It says over 90% are made in Australia and lists ingredients it avoids, including SLS, SLES, parabens and mineral oil.
For hair, the standouts are bundles:
- Damaged or over-processed hair: the Argan RepHair set at A$64.95 combines a 375ml sulfate-free protein shampoo, a 375ml conditioner and a 250ml protein leave-in spray.
- Daily detangling for a household: the Argan Leave-In Conditioning Spray Duo, two 250ml bottles for A$49.95.
- The signature serum: the Argan Hair & Skin Treatment in Pomegranate & Vanilla, 500ml for A$198. New users should try a smaller size first.
Two cautions. Some compare-at prices look inflated or inconsistent, so judge bundles by per-item cost rather than the percent off. And the return window is 14 days for unused items, with discounted items possibly excluded, which matters when about 391 products were on sale. Prices are in Australian dollars, and overseas orders go by express post, so this is best value for buyers in Australia.
Treasured Locks: best for personal advice on coily and kinky hair
Treasured Locks is a family-run Ohio boutique for African American and biracial hair, skin and body care, started in 2002 according to its about page. It says it stocks more than 200 products from over 20 brands, including three house brands sold only there: Treasured Locks, HumiNature and Ajuven. We could not browse its catalog, so we can't list specific products or prices.
The reason to shop here is people. The contact page lists a phone line (513.759.2206) answered 8 AM to 5 PM Eastern on weekdays, plus live chat. If you have tried a dozen products without luck, a conversation with someone who knows textured hair is worth more than another review.
Its return policy has a useful twist: unopened products can be returned within 14 days for full credit, and you can also return one opened package per product, so you can try something once. You pay return shipping unless the item was defective or wrong. We found no published shipping policy, so ask about delivery times and costs first. The store also sells supplements; check with your doctor before starting any.
Batanaful: best for pure batana oil, with a caution on claims
Batanaful is a UK brand built around batana oil from La Moskitia, Honduras. Its Pure Batana Oil is a single-ingredient, unrefined 100ml jar at £33 with an independent Certificate of Purity, which matters in a category where many "batana" products are blends. The lighter Wonder Oil (£25) mixes batana with almond, olive, avocado, jojoba and other oils, so skip it with a nut allergy. A 19 momme mulberry silk pillowcase (£32) rounds out the overnight routine.
Read the marketing carefully. The about page and FAQ say batana oil is "clinically proven" to repair hair, reverses hair loss and fades scars, without linking studies. Treat it as a rich conditioning oil. For thinning, hair loss or scalp conditions, see a doctor or dermatologist.
Practical details are good: same-day UK dispatch before 1pm on weekdays, free standard UK delivery over £50, and 30 days to return unopened items. Opened products can't be returned, so start with the £22 Mini Gift Set if you are unsure. US shipping cost isn't stated, and duties outside the UK are on you.
How to choose
- Start with your hair type. Coily, kinky and tightly curled hair usually needs more slip and moisture. Botanical Cabana and Treasured Locks are built for it. Fine or flat hair can be weighed down by thick creams and oils.
- Pick by problem, not by brand. Breakage and over-processing point to a protein routine like RepHair. Dryness points to leave-ins and oils. Frizz before a blowout points to a primer.
- Check where it ships from. One brand ships US only, one ships from the UK in pounds, one from Australia in Australian dollars. Shipping and duties can double the cost of a single bottle.
- Mind the return rules. Opened beauty products are often final. Botanical Cabana (gently used) and Treasured Locks (one opened item) are the exceptions here.
- Patch test. Essential oils, cayenne, peppermint and fragrance appear across these ranges.
The verdict
For most US shoppers with curly or coily hair, start with Botanical Cabana for price and returns, and call Treasured Locks if you want a human recommendation. Australian shoppers will get the most from Silk Oil of Morocco's bundles. Buy from Batanaful if you specifically want pure batana oil, and ignore the miracle claims.
