The three watch brands we have reviewed here serve three very different kinds of buyer. Boderry is a microbrand selling titanium automatics at prices where most brands use plated steel. Tsar Bomba sells loud skeleton watches with swappable bezels and straps. Watch-Modz doesn't sell finished watches at all: it sells the parts to build your own Seiko-style mod. All three finished fairly close together in our reviews, so the right pick depends on what you want on your wrist, and how much tinkering you want to do to get it there. ## Quick ranking

1. Watch-Modz: best for building your own watch
Watch-Modz is a US parts shop for the Seiko modding world, built around the SKX007 case format and the NH35, NH36 and NH38 movement families. With 537 parts and a median price of $29.99, it covers nearly every component of a build: cases, dials, hands, chapter rings, bezels, bezel inserts, crystals, case backs, straps and movements. Some useful benchmarks:
- Cases: the SKX007 Case Black MM300 (3:00 crown) is $69.99, a 42mm 316L steel MarineMaster-style case rated to 200m that accepts OEM and aftermarket SKX parts. The Black Racer is a compact 39mm case at $79.99 that ships with a sapphire crystal. - Dials: sterile 28.5mm dials from $19.99, with four dial feet for 3:00 and 3:45 crown positions. - Hands: Samurai-style NH35 hands with C3 Super-LumiNova at $25.99. - Crystals: a blue AR sapphire with date magnifier at $46.99. - Movements: the skeletonized NH71 at $94.99 (no date; spacer sold separately). Orders usually ship the same day by USPS, and returns are accepted within 30 days for unused parts, with you paying return shipping. Two cautions. The store's own FAQ recommends professional installation, and water resistance depends on correct assembly and pressure testing. And "unused" is tricky once you have test-fitted a part, so confirm movement and case compatibility on every listing before ordering. Many parts are homage designs inspired by famous watches, sold for personal builds. ## 2. Boderry: best value automatic watch
Boderry's hook is material for money. Titanium cases, sapphire crystal and named movements show up at $149 to $499, where many fashion brands sell plated steel with mineral glass. Listings give real specs, including case size, lug-to-lug, lug width, movement and weight. - VOYAGER S72, $149: 40mm titanium, HZ8240 automatic with a 72-hour power reserve, sapphire, screw-down crown, 100m water resistance, 74 g. The best-value watch in this guide. - HOU H1, $189: 38mm steel vintage field watch with a 72-hour automatic, domed sapphire, 100m, on a Bund strap. - LANDMASTER GMT, $499: 38mm titanium with a Miyota 9075 GMT movement, tritium tubes, domed sapphire and a titanium bracelet. The traveler's pick. - ELEGANT, $76: an 8mm-thin dress watch with a Swiss Ronda 6004D quartz and sapphire crystal; 3 ATM, so not for swimming. The tradeoffs are real. The HZ movements in the cheaper models are less familiar than Seiko or Miyota calibers, which matters for long-term servicing. The SeaTurtle diver's listing conflicts on water resistance (100m vs 200m), so confirm before diving. And the return policy is the tightest here: 8 days from delivery, unworn, protective film still on the bracelet, no screws removed, and return shipping not refunded. Measure your wrist and check lug-to-lug before you order. Free shipping goes to most countries; duties are on you. ## 3. Tsar Bomba: best for bold, customizable designs
Tsar Bomba is a style-first brand: oversized skeleton dials, carbon fiber and ceramic bezels, and a tool-free system for swapping straps, bezels and crowns on certain series. If the idea of turning one watch into several looks appeals to you, this is the brand. - Elemental TB8224Q, $280: a stainless tonneau chronograph with a Seiko quartz movement, sapphire crystal and 50m water resistance. - Elemental TB8208CF, $499.99: a skeleton automatic with a Citizen Miyota movement and carbon fiber bezel, in a version that ships from the US. - Atomic TB8218 (women's), from $739.99: Miyota automatic, sapphire, 100m, and the interchangeable bezel system. Extra bezels run $39.99 to $249.99 and straps about $100. What to weigh: at $400 to $750, Tsar Bomba competes with established Japanese and Swiss entry-level brands that publish deeper movement detail. Some listings raise questions; the Parallax ($2,500) is titled a tourbillon but its description never mentions one, so ask before you buy a flagship. Policies are fair: 30-day returns with the original box and invoice or warranty card, one free return or exchange, a 2-year warranty on watches, and free US shipping over $60 with 3 to 7 business days of delivery. ## How to choose a watch (or watch parts)
- Decide: buy, customize or build. Buy a finished watch from Boderry, restyle one with Tsar Bomba's swappable parts, or build from scratch with Watch-Modz. 2. Movement. Quartz is accurate and low maintenance. Automatics wind as you wear them; check the power reserve (72 hours on Boderry's VOYAGER S72 and HOU H1). Named, common calibers like Seiko NH35 or Miyota are easier to service. 3. Case size and lug-to-lug. Diameter alone misleads. A 40mm watch with 49mm lug-to-lug wears larger than a 38mm with 47.5mm. Compare to a watch you own. 4. Crystal. Sapphire resists scratches far better than mineral glass. All three brands use sapphire on most models we reviewed. 5. Water resistance. 30m (3 ATM) is splash-proof; 50m handles swimming but not diving; 100m and up is a comfortable everyday rating. 6. Lug width. Matters for strap swaps. Boderry's straps come in 20mm and 22mm; SKX-style builds use 22mm on most cases. 7. Return terms. Eight days at Boderry versus 30 at the others is a big difference if you are unsure about sizing. ## The verdict
For the most watch for the money, buy a Boderry VOYAGER S72. For a statement piece you can restyle, choose Tsar Bomba. For a one-of-one build, start a Seiko mod with Watch-Modz, and plan on a watchmaker for assembly unless you have the tools and patience.
