The verdict
Tsarbomba and Watch-Modz both sell to people who want a watch nobody else has, but they get you there in opposite ways. Tsarbomba sells finished, design-forward watches, mostly skeleton automatics and quartz chronographs, with swappable bezels and straps so you can restyle them. Watch-Modz, our stronger pick of the two, sells the parts to build your own watch on the Seiko SKX007 platform: cases, dials, hands, crystals, bezels, straps, and movements.
- Want a bold watch on your wrist next week, no tools involved: Tsarbomba.
- Want a custom automatic that's exactly your design: Watch-Modz, ideally with a watchmaker doing the assembly.
- Want the best value per dollar: Watch-Modz. Parts are fairly priced and the result is built on Seiko NH movements.
- Want a warranty on the finished watch: Tsarbomba, which gives 2 years on watches.
- Want to restyle a watch you already own: Tsarbomba if it's an Atomic, Parallax, Core Decay, or Dark Matter; Watch-Modz if it's an SKX-style Seiko.
- Buying a gift: Tsarbomba. A box of mod parts is only a gift for someone who already mods.

Price: what your money gets
Tsarbomba prices its watches as fashion-forward statement pieces. The Elemental TB8224Q ($280) is a stainless tonneau chronograph with a Seiko quartz movement, sapphire crystal, and 50m water resistance. The Elemental TB8208CF ($499.99, shipping from the US) is a skeleton automatic with a carbon fiber bezel and a Citizen Miyota movement. The women's Atomic TB8218 ($739.99 and up) adds a tool-free interchangeable system for straps, bezels, and crowns and is rated to 100m. At the top, the Parallax ($2,500) is a tonneau automatic with power reserve, day, month, date, and 24-hour displays.
Our review is blunt about value: similar money buys established Japanese or Swiss entry-level brands, and you pay mainly for design. A few listings also make claims worth checking. The Parallax title says tourbillon but the description never mentions one, and the TB8209C describes a tourbillon in a Miyota-based watch at $649.99. Ask Tsarbomba before paying for that feature. Nothing was on sale when we checked.
Watch-Modz prices individual parts fairly, and you assemble the cost yourself. As an illustration from listings we reviewed: a MarineMaster-style 42mm case ($69.99), a sterile black NH36 dial ($19.99), Samurai-style hands with C3 lume ($25.99), a sapphire crystal with date magnifier ($46.99), and a 22mm rubber strap ($39.99) add up to about $203. That's before the movement, bezel and insert, chapter ring, crown, and any watchmaker's fee, so a finished build lands well above that. The upside is total control over every visible part, built around Seiko NH movements that are widely serviced.
Customization: two different systems
Tsarbomba's customization is plug-and-play. Atomic series bezels come in stainless steel, fluororubber, carbon fiber, cubic zirconia, and ceramic; a carbon fiber bezel is $159.99. Fluororubber straps are $99.99 for the Atomic, Parallax, and Core Decay, and $199.99 for the Dark Matter series (which doesn't fit the Dark Matter 5). Every part is model-specific, and building several looks gets expensive quickly.
Watch-Modz's customization is real watchmaking. Its 537 parts cover nearly every component, and listings give the numbers you need: dial diameters (28.5mm), dial feet positions (3:00 and 3:45 crowns), hand lengths (9, 12, and 13mm), lug-to-lug (47.7mm on the MM300 case), and movement compatibility. The store's own FAQ recommends professional installation if you're new to modding, and water resistance depends on correct assembly and pressure testing.
Policies compared
Returns. Both give 30 days. Tsarbomba includes one free return or exchange per order; after that you pay shipping, and returns are refused without the original label, complete box, and invoice or warranty card. Watch-Modz requires parts to be unused, which is tricky once you've test-fitted them, and you pay return shipping. Sale items are final.
Warranty. Tsarbomba's 2-year warranty on watches is a genuine advantage, and its FAQ says a one-time repair should not cost you. Watch-Modz exchanges defective or damaged parts; a self-built watch's reliability is on the builder.
Shipping. Watch-Modz is faster to dispatch, usually the same day from Virginia Beach. Tsarbomba ships US-stocked models in about 3 to 7 business days after processing; other models take longer. Pick a "Ship from US" Tsarbomba listing if you're in the States.
Things to check before ordering
- Case size. Several Tsarbomba listings omit diameter and thickness, and tonneau cases often wear large. Watch-Modz lists diameter and lug-to-lug.
- Movement. Ask Tsarbomba which movement a higher-priced automatic uses. At Watch-Modz, match NH35/NH36 (date) versus NH38/NH71 (no date) to your dial.
- Water resistance. Most Tsarbomba models are 50m, fine for splashes and swimming but not diving. A modded watch is only as water resistant as its assembly.
- Compatibility. Tsarbomba bezels and straps fit specific series only. Watch-Modz SKX bracelets and crystals don't fit its Racer case, which takes a 20mm strap.
- Keep packaging. Both stores need original packaging for returns.
Who should pick which
- Gift for someone who loves bold watches: Tsarbomba Elemental TB8208CF skeleton automatic.
- Budget statement chronograph: Tsarbomba TB8224Q at $280.
- First Seiko mod with a watchmaker's help: Watch-Modz MM300-style case, sterile dial, and Samurai hands.
- Open-worked custom build: Watch-Modz NH71 skeleton movement, plus the NH spacer it needs.
- Already own an SKX: Watch-Modz sapphire crystal and rubber strap as easy upgrades.
Bottom line
Watch-Modz is the stronger store overall and offers better value for anyone willing to build (or pay someone to build) a custom Seiko-based watch. Tsarbomba is the choice for buyers who want a finished, eye-catching watch with a 2-year warranty and swappable styling, accepting that they're paying for design rather than movement pedigree.
