The ranking at a glance
These three stores sell decor and textiles, but each one fills a different corner of a room. AMAKA Africa is handmade tableware and textiles from Ugandan artisans. Roomtery is trend-driven bedroom and dorm decor at small-ticket prices. MyTindy is a large Moroccan craft marketplace with real handwoven rugs. We ranked them by our brand review scores, which weigh value, policies, selection, reputation and transparency, and gave each a "best for" label.
| Rank | Brand | Score | Best for | Price range | Returns |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | AMAKA Africa | 7.3 | Handmade, fair-trade table linens and gifts | $8 to $239 (median $35) | 30 days, free US return label |
| 2 | Roomtery | 7.0 | Aesthetic bedding and dorm decor on a budget | $5.99 to $279.99 (median $23.99) | 30 days, you pay return shipping to Europe |
| 3 | MyTindy | 6.5 | Moroccan rugs and hand-printed cushions | Under €10 to over €4,000 (median about €82) | 14 days, sale items final |
1. AMAKA Africa: best overall, and best for handmade gifts
AMAKA Africa is a social enterprise in Jinja, Uganda. Its about page says it pays artisan partners above-market prices, provides business training and prioritizes businesses that employ women. The catalog is small (about 76 products) and built on three materials: upcycled cow horn, hand-loomed Ugandan cotton, and carved wood and soapstone.
The textiles are what earn it a spot in a decor guide. The Kilombera Throw Blanket is 100% cotton, hand woven on a loom, roughly 145 x 160 cm, for $78. Woven cotton placemats come in sets of four for $40, table runners run $45 to $55, and horn napkin rings are $32 for six.
Why it ranks first: the best policies in this group. US orders over $50 ship free, and returns within 30 days come with a free prepaid label. The tradeoffs are speed (Ground takes 7 to 10 business days, with no two-day option), some pre-order items, and natural variation: horn and wood pieces will not exactly match the photos. Care instructions are missing on several textile listings, so ask before machine-drying anything hand-loomed.
2. Roomtery: best for bedrooms, dorms and small spaces
Roomtery organizes 1,241 products by internet room aesthetic: cottagecore, soft girl, dark academia, kawaii, gamer. Bedding is its biggest category (170 sets), most priced around $87.99, and the listings name the fabric and give dimensions. Small accents are where the prices get fun: an iridescent acrylic blob mirror from $14.99, a USB-C rechargeable axolotl night light with a 20-minute timer for $29.99, and novelty tufted rugs from $29.99.
Why it ranks second: free tracked shipping to the US, Canada, Australia and the EU, a 30-day return window with no restocking fee, and few inflated markdowns (only 128 items on sale). The catches:
- Bedding uses European sizing. The Juicy Cherry set's Queen duvet is 79 x 90 inches, smaller than a typical US queen insert, and its twin fitted sheet is wider and longer than a US twin mattress. Measure first.
- Long non-returnable list. Sale items, comforters, rugs, wall prints and furniture cannot be returned.
- Slow delivery. 2 to 5 days to ship, then 8 to 14 days to the US.
- Return shipping goes to a European warehouse at your cost, and contact is email only.
3. MyTindy: best for Moroccan rugs and artisan textiles
MyTindy is a marketplace of Moroccan artisans and designers with 5,684 products, led by rugs (579). Prices are in euros. Listings are usually specific about dimensions, materials and origin, which matters when buying a rug sight unseen. The black and white Beni Ourain is handwoven wool from the Middle Atlas, 318 x 195 cm, for €1,270. At the accessible end, cushion covers are hand screen-printed on 100% organic cotton in limited runs and sold with or without filling, from €58.88.
Why it ranks third: the policies are the weakest here. You get 14 days to return unused items, sale items cannot be refunded, and exchanges are for defective or damaged items only. Orders take 5 to 10 days to process before shipping from Morocco by FedEx, UPS or DHL, and we did not find published shipping rates, so check cost at checkout. Some descriptions are in French only, and the contact page shows placeholder text. For a four-figure rug, that short return window deserves real thought.
How to choose decor and textiles online
Measure, then measure again. Rug and bedding sizes are where most online decor returns start. Convert centimeters yourself (a 318 x 195 cm rug is about 10.4 x 6.4 feet), and check whether bedding follows US or European sizing.
Read the fiber line. 100% cotton breathes and softens with washing. Polyester is easy care but can sleep warmer. Hand-loomed cotton and wool usually need gentler care than machine-made textiles. Several listings here say a pouch is 100% cotton in the copy but 80/20 recycled cotton and polyester in the spec line; trust the spec line and ask if it matters.
Expect variation in handmade pieces. Horn, wood, hand-printed cotton and handwoven wool vary from the photos by design. If you need a perfectly matched set of eight, mass-produced decor is a better fit.
Know what you cannot return. Rugs are non-returnable at Roomtery, and MyTindy gives only 14 days. AMAKA's free return label is the most forgiving option in this group.
Budget for time. All three ship slowly by US standards: about 1 to 3 weeks depending on the store. Order holiday gifts early.
Bottom line
For a gift or a dining table, AMAKA Africa offers the best mix of craftsmanship, story and buyer protection. For a fast, cheap bedroom refresh in a specific aesthetic, Roomtery has the range, as long as you check sizing and the no-return list. For a statement Moroccan rug or artisan cushions, MyTindy has the depth of catalog, but treat its 14-day return window as close to final.
