GameGearMaster review 2026

GameGearMaster is a great fit for game masters who enjoy crafting and want a step-by-step system for building click-together 3D dungeon terrain from foamboard and dollar-store supplies. Skip it if you want ready-made terrain, because you're buying instructions, templates and textures, not finished pieces. Start with the Essential Core download and confirm you're comfortable with the tools before buying add-ons.

About GameGearMaster

GameGearMaster is the home of TERRAINO, a modular tabletop terrain system created by founder Jake Karlsmark, who started the site in 2018. His about page tells the story: out of work and running Dungeons and Dragons games for friends, he built the first pieces from Dollar Tree materials. The company describes itself as two employees plus contract artists, writers and developers, says the site welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors a year, and notes a Wilmington Business Journal MADE award for businesses in North Carolina's Cape Fear region.

What TERRAINO is

The FAQ describes TERRAINO as a Lego-like, click-together 3D terrain system you build for pennies a piece using tracing templates, foamboard, glue and craft paint. It's designed for standard 28mm miniatures, so it works with D&D, Pathfinder, Warhammer 40k and similar games. What you buy are construction manuals with the instructions, tools, templates, textures and tutorial videos; the materials come from craft or dollar stores. All downloads include free updates by email.

What the catalog looks like

The store is small, with 11 products from $4.99 to $99.99 and a median of $44.99. The core systems come in three sizes: Essential Core at $44.99 (currently down from $49.98), Complete Core at $69.99 and Expanded Core at $99.99. Add-ons at $44.99 each cover themes: Strongholds (castles and catacombs), Buildings (taverns and towns), Modular Floors and Decorations. There are also two original 5e adventures designed around TERRAINO: The Frozen Temple of Ranzakka at $19.99, with player and DM versions of the maps, and The Fugitive with a Sewers add-on at $24.99. A 3D-printable grid tile jig file costs $4.99, and digital gift cards start at $10.

What sets it apart

Free terrain tutorials are everywhere online, and the FAQ addresses that head-on: the paid manuals give you a complete, tested system with templates and textures so pieces from different builders fit together. If you enjoy crafting, the cost per piece can be very low compared with buying resin or plastic terrain. If you don't want to cut foamboard, this isn't the product for you.

Shipping, refunds and contact

Most products are digital: you get a download link on the order page and by email right after checkout. Digital downloads have a 14-day refund window, which is generous for digital goods. Physical items ship within 3 business days, with free US shipping on orders of $40 or more (untracked) and paid tracked options at checkout. There's no international shipping for physical items. Physical goods carry a 14-day defect warranty, and returns must be unused, with return shipping paid by you and deducted from any refund. Support is available through a contact form, by phone at 201-477-8141 on weekdays 9 to 5 Eastern, or at info@gamegearmaster.com.
