Tech accessories are the part of AliExpress that people ask about most: cables, card readers, phone stands, USB hubs, lights. Prices are tiny and order counts are huge, which is exactly why the category needs a careful eye. The numbers printed in titles (240W, 256GB, 1000 lumens) are seller claims, and at a couple of dollars some of them cannot be literally true. This guide picks the accessories in our research with the most sensible claims and explains the checks that keep you from buying a fake spec. For how the marketplace works, read our AliExpress review.
Everything here comes from research into listings and seller data, not from using the products.
Quick rules for AliExpress tech
- Treat watt, lumen and gigabyte numbers as ceilings or claims. They are the seller's figures and AliExpress does not verify them for you.
- Buy accessories, not safety-critical gear. A cable, a stand and a card reader can fail without hurting anyone. A wall charger or a battery light is different.
- Look for stated certification on anything plugged into a wall. A listing should name a mark such as UL or ETL. If it does not, skip it.
- Pick sellers with a track record. Roughly 90% positive feedback or better, many orders and recent buyer photos.
Claims to doubt, and what to do
| Claim in the title | Why to doubt it | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 240W or 100W cable | Power depends on the charger and the device too, and most phones charge far slower | Use the number as a ceiling, and buy a cable that matches your charger |
| 120W four-port charger | The total is shared across ports, not per port | Check per-port output and the plug type, and look for UL or ETL |
| 256GB micro SD card | Unbranded cards from marketplaces are a known source of fake capacity | Test with a tool such as H2testw or F3 before trusting it |
| 1000 or 2000 lumen flashlight | Brightness on very cheap lights is often overstated | Expect a bright, ordinary torch, and ignore the headline |
| "Bone conduction" earbuds under $2 | True bone-conduction headsets usually cost far more | Expect a basic earpiece, or skip |
Cables
Cables are the best category to buy from AliExpress. A cable carries no mains voltage, the downside is small, and listings are cheap. Our picks span from a branded 100W USB-C cable to plain ones with sane ratings. Some cheap ones have extras like a right-angle plug or an LED readout.
What to look for:
- A rating that matches your use. A 100W USB-C to USB-C cable is plenty for a phone and a spare for a laptop. A cable stamped 240W usually does not charge your phone any faster than a decent 100W one, because the phone only draws what it supports.
- The connector pair. USB-C to USB-C is not the same as USB-A to USB-C. A USB-A port rarely delivers 100W, so a right-angle gaming cable like the elbow cable on our list charges at the speed of your port and phone.
- A real brand, when you can verify the store. The Baseus cable is a branded product, but AliExpress also hosts unofficial sellers, so check that the store is authorized.
- Length. It is rarely in the title. Read the option list.
Chargers and anything plugged into a wall
We deliberately skipped chargers in the picks. Chargers on AliExpress can carry attractive wattage claims at very low prices, but safety certification is unclear on many of them. If you buy one anyway, look for a stated UL or ETL mark, a US plug, and a per-port rating, and do not leave it plugged in overnight if you cannot verify any of that. For a trusted charger, buy from a store you can verify, or a retailer with a clear safety record.
Storage: where fake capacity bites
Memory cards and flash drives are the classic fake-spec product. An unbranded card that claims 256GB can silently lose data once the real storage fills up. If you buy one, run a capacity test before trusting it with photos or video, and file a Buyer Protection claim quickly if it fails. A Type-C card reader, which is a simple adapter, is a safer buy than the card itself. The one in our picks reads TF (microSD) cards and lists iPhone 15 and newer, so check that your phone has USB-C.
Hubs, stands and small gear
A USB-C hub with HDMI, Ethernet and card slots is cheap on AliExpress, but listings often leave out the 4K refresh rate, USB version and power-passthrough wattage, and cheap hubs can run hot or drop connections when many ports are in use. They are fine for light travel use. Phone stands, car mounts and cable organizers are low risk: the main questions are fit and adhesive. Magnetic car holders can lose grip on a thick case, and adhesive can fail in a hot car.
For lights, a rechargeable motion-sensor night light is useful in closets and stairs, and listings rarely state brightness or battery size. Rechargeable lithium products can ship slowly, so allow time. We did not pick specific retro handhelds or development boards, since they were not among the vetted listings, but the same rules apply: claims are the seller's, and a track-record seller beats a cheap one.
Shipping, duties and returns
AliExpress has said Choice orders to the US take 5 to 12 days and others 8 to 14. In practice, plan on one to three weeks for small accessories. Small imports are no longer duty-free in the US, so the final price can be higher than the listing. The checkout page shows import charges either folded into the price or as a separate line.
If an item does not arrive, arrives damaged or is not as described, open a dispute from your order page. Reported terms allow disputes up to 15 days after delivery, and eligible items can be returned free within 90 days, with the first return on an order free. Confirm the terms on the listing. Which should you buy?
- A spare USB-C cable: the Toocki or Baseus. Both are rated 100W with strong feedback.
- A right-angle cable for gaming: the elbow cable, mindful of the 100W caveat.
- Reading photos from a microSD card: the Type-C card reader.
- A laptop with few ports: the USB-C hub, for light use.
- Desk and car tidying: the cable organizer, foldable phone stand and magnetic car holder cost almost nothing.
