AliExpress review 2026

AliExpress is a legitimate marketplace that is worth using for cheap, low-risk things like cables, tools, cleaning supplies and small home items, as long as you can wait and you buy from well-rated sellers. Skip it for anything safety-critical, brand-name or urgent. Check the seller's feedback score, the delivery estimate and the import-charge line at checkout before you pay.

About AliExpress

AliExpress is an online marketplace owned by Alibaba Group. It does not sell its own stock. Instead, it lets mostly small, independent sellers based in China (plus some elsewhere) list single items for shoppers around the world, with no minimum order. That is the biggest difference from Alibaba.com, which is a wholesale site built around minimum order quantities, bulk pricing and custom or private-label orders. If you want one phone stand, AliExpress is the right site. If you want 500 of them with your logo, it is Alibaba.com.

What the catalog looks like

The catalog is enormous, with tens of thousands of listings in our database alone, spanning phone accessories, tools, car parts, home goods, beauty, fashion, hobby gear and electronics. Prices are the draw. Many of the most-ordered items cost a few dollars: a telescoping magnetic pickup tool at $1.38, a magnetic drill bit set from $1.55, and microfiber cleaning cloths from $1.84. Those prices vary by variant and quantity, so the number on the search page is a starting point.

Treat "was" prices with suspicion. In the catalog, list prices are often exactly double the current price, which looks like a standing markdown rather than a real discount. Judge a deal by what you pay, not by the percentage off.

How it works, and where it goes wrong

Every listing is a different seller, so quality is uneven. Two nearly identical items can come from stores with very different track records. US trade officials added AliExpress to a list of markets accused of counterfeiting in 2022, so branded goods at bargain prices deserve real doubt. Electronics, chargers, cosmetics, supplements and children's products are the categories where unclear safety certification matters most.

The protection is real, though. Buyer Protection covers items that never arrive, arrive damaged, are wrong or short, or are not as described. You open a dispute from the order page, add photos or video, and the seller gets a few days to respond before AliExpress steps in. The reported window to open a dispute is about 15 days after delivery is confirmed. Some categories, such as custom items, perishables and hygiene products, are generally excluded.

Shipping, returns and import charges

AliExpress's own 2024 announcement for US shoppers promised Choice orders in 5 to 12 days and standard orders in 8 to 14 days. In practice, standard shipping from China often runs two to four weeks. Items marked "Ship from United States" come from local stock and can arrive in days. Choice is a separate label: AliExpress, not the seller, handles logistics and support on those orders.

The same announcement described a free first return per order within 90 days on eligible items and a $1 coupon for late deliveries. Terms can change and they differ by seller, so read the return line on the product page before you buy.

Import charges are the newer catch. The US ended its $800 duty-free exemption for China and Hong Kong on May 2, 2025, and for all countries on August 29, 2025. Low-value parcels are now dutiable, and a court upheld the suspension in August 2026, though the rules keep shifting. Depending on the order, charges are built into the price, shown as a separate estimate at checkout, or occasionally collected on delivery. No single rate applies, so read the checkout total.

What customers say about AliExpress

Overall: mixed

Shoppers broadly agree that AliExpress is a good source of cheap, hard-to-find items and that buyer protection usually works when a dispute is needed. Frustration centers on slow standard shipping, items that look different from the photos, uneven seller quality, and surprise import charges since the duty exemption ended.

What buyers like

  • Very low prices on small, generic items
  • Huge range, including niche parts and gadgets that are hard to find locally
  • Refunds through Buyer Protection when an order is lost or clearly wrong

Common complaints

  • Long delivery times on standard shipping
  • Quality and sizing that do not match the listing photos
  • Counterfeit or low-quality branded items
  • Import charges and checkout totals that change the final price

Summarized in our own words from public shopper discussions and review platforms, read October 2026. These are other shoppers' experiences, not our own testing or ratings.

What stands out

  • Huge selection. Our catalog lists tens of thousands of products across phone gear, tools, car care, beauty, fashion and home.
  • Very low entry prices. Many popular items start around $1 to $3, so a bad pick costs little.
  • Buyer Protection on every order. Not received, damaged or not as described claims go through a dispute process on the order page.
  • Choice and local-stock labels. Choice listings and "Ship from United States" items are the fastest way to avoid long waits.

Our favorite AliExpress products

Good to know before you order

  • Seller quality varies a lot, and counterfeit and unsafe-product risk is real on branded and electrical items
  • Standard shipping from China can take two to four weeks
  • Import charges now apply to low-value parcels, which narrows the price gap and can change your total
  • Return terms differ by seller and the dispute window is short (about 15 days after delivery)
  • Inflated "was" prices and heavy promotion make real discounts hard to judge

Shipping, returns & warranty

Shipping
AliExpress's 2024 US guarantee listed Choice orders at 5 to 12 days and standard orders at 8 to 14 days, but real-world standard shipping from China often runs longer. Items marked Ship from United States come from local stock. Free shipping on Choice orders depends on a minimum order shown at checkout.
Returns
Eligible items can be returned within 90 days of payment, with the first return on each order free, according to AliExpress's 2024 US announcement. Return terms vary by seller and item, so check the product page. Custom, perishable and hygiene items are generally excluded.
Warranty
AliExpress does not publish a marketplace-wide product warranty. Coverage depends on the individual seller, and Buyer Protection covers non-delivery, damage and not-as-described claims instead.
Payment
US shoppers can pay by Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Instalment options such as Klarna and PayPal Pay Later appear on some orders, and availability varies.
International
AliExpress sells to shoppers worldwide. For US orders, import duties on low-value parcels have applied since the duty-free exemption ended in 2025, and state sales tax is added at checkout.

Tips before you buy

  1. Check the seller's feedback before you add to cart: aim for 90% positive or better, with solid scores for item as described, communication and shipping speed, and hundreds or thousands of orders rather than a handful.
  2. Prefer Choice listings or Ship from United States items when timing matters, and read the delivery estimate on the checkout page.
  3. Look at buyer photos in reviews, not just star counts, and be suspicious of branded goods at implausibly low prices or listings with copied, vague descriptions.
  4. Read the checkout summary line by line for import charges and taxes, and take screenshots of the product page and estimated delivery in case you need to open a dispute.
  5. Pay by credit card or PayPal for extra recourse, and open a dispute promptly. Do not wait until the end of the window.

How we research AliExpress

  • What we check. We read AliExpress's published shipping, returns and contact policies and its full catalog of 52,612 products, then summarize what matters before you order. We don't test products hands-on, and we don't publish star ratings.
  • Where prices come from. Prices, stock and markdowns are read from aliexpress.com's own catalog and re-synced throughout the day. A crossed-out price is the store's own "compare at" price, and we say "up to" when a discount varies by size or color.
  • How we make money. If you buy through our links, AliExpress may pay us a commission at no extra cost to you. Brands can't pay to be listed or to change what we write, and commission rates never affect the order of anything on this site.

Frequently asked questions

Is AliExpress legit?
Yes. AliExpress is a real marketplace owned by Alibaba Group, and Buyer Protection covers orders that never arrive, arrive damaged or are not as described. The risk is not the site itself. It is uneven seller quality and counterfeit or unsafe products, so buy from well-rated sellers and pay by card or PayPal.
Does AliExpress have a coupon code?
We could not verify an official AliExpress promo code right now, and we will not make one up. The discounts that really exist are new-shopper coupons, seller store coupons, coins earned in the app, Choice Day early each month, and the big sales in March, on 11.11 and on Black Friday. Be skeptical of code lists, because many contain expired or generic codes.
What is AliExpress's return policy?
AliExpress's 2024 US announcement described free returns within 90 days on eligible items, with the first return on each order free. Terms vary by seller and item, so read the return line on the product page. Separately, Buyer Protection disputes for non-delivery, damage or not-as-described items are reported to need opening within about 15 days after delivery.
Is AliExpress the same as Alibaba?
They share a parent, Alibaba Group, but they are different businesses. Alibaba.com is wholesale, with minimum order quantities and Trade Assurance on eligible orders. AliExpress is retail for single items, with no minimum and Buyer Protection.
How long does AliExpress take to ship to the US?
AliExpress's own 2024 US guarantee listed 5 to 12 days for Choice orders and 8 to 14 days for standard orders. In practice, standard shipping from China often takes two to four weeks, and items labeled Ship from United States can arrive in a few days. Treat the estimate shown at checkout as your guide.
Do you pay customs or import fees on AliExpress orders?
Often, yes, in some form. The US ended its duty-free exemption for low-value parcels from China and Hong Kong on May 2, 2025 and for all countries on August 29, 2025, so these orders are now dutiable. Depending on the order, charges are included in the price, shown as a separate estimate at checkout, or collected at delivery. Rates change, so read the checkout total.
How can I tell if an AliExpress seller is trustworthy?
Look for 90% or higher positive feedback with good scores for item as described, communication and shipping speed. Check that the store has hundreds or thousands of orders and some history, and read reviews with buyer photos. Official stores and Choice listings add another layer, and branded goods at very low prices are a red flag.
Is AliExpress safe to buy electronics and chargers from?
Use caution. Safety certification is often unclear on chargers, power banks, cosmetics, supplements and children's products. Stick to seller-rated, well-reviewed listings, or buy those categories from a retailer that publishes safety information.

What are common complaints about AliExpress?
The issues buyers mention most: long delivery times on standard shipping; quality and sizing that do not match the listing photos; counterfeit or low-quality branded items; import charges and checkout totals that change the final price.
